Forrester to Codey: "Corruption Can't Be Ignored!"

New Jersey Needs An Independent Watchdog for the People; Inspector General’s Gaffe Symptomatic of the Continuing Denial of the Culture of Corruption in Trenton

( West Windsor) — Today Conservative businessman Doug Forrester again called for an elected Auditor General to guard New Jersey taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars, someone other than an appointee who fails to recognize there is corruption in Trenton.

“I believe we are more likely to solve this problem if we start with someone who believes it exists. If the President appointed an FBI Director who said she would fight crime, but wasn’t sure that it’s there, we would be appalled,” said Forrester. “It is important that we have an independent watchdog because the corruption and fiscal malfeasance in this state cost the taxpayers real dollars every day. Even worse, this is an appointment with no real power or accountability. Acting Governor Codey’s appointee will refer to the Attorney General who will then report to the Governor – this is just more of the same politics as usual – added bureaucracy with no added protection.”

“If the new Inspector General is uncertain whether waste, fraud and abuse exist, then I would suggest looking at the School Construction Corporation,” noted Forrester. “The government has spent billions of taxpayer dollars, but schools are left unfinished, workers aren’t being paid, and bills are piling up. Overruns and delays will waste more of our hard-earned taxpayer dollars.”

“This is yet another example of why we need an independent watchdog to protect taxpayer dollars, and real change in leadership in Trenton. As Governor, I will make sure that New Jersey families’ hard-earned dollars are put to work for them and not the Trenton insiders and their cronies,” said Forrester.
